About The Position

Road & Rail Services is seeking an experienced Terminal Manager to lead our transloading operation in Knoxville, Tennessee. This opportunity is designed for a manager who is comfortable being visible in the operation, developing employees, solving problems, and taking responsibility for the overall performance of the terminal. This is not a desk-only management position. You will spend time in the field alongside your team, monitoring daily activity and ensuring employees have the training, equipment, and direction needed to work safely and efficiently. The terminal handles the transfer of commodities between railcars and trucks, which may include ethanol, plastic pellets, food-grade materials, and other products. A strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, customer service, and operational consistency is essential.

Requirements

  • At least two years of management or supervisory experience, preferably with responsibility for operating expenses, budgets, productivity, or P&L results.
  • Lead employees while holding the team accountable for performance and safety
  • Communicate effectively with employees, customers, and company leadership
  • Make sound decisions in a fast-moving operational environment
  • Organize multiple priorities without losing attention to detail
  • Work both independently and as part of a larger operations team
  • Perform work outdoors in changing weather conditions
  • Safely climb railcars, use stairs and ladders, and navigate an industrial terminal environment
  • Assist with physical or operational duties when necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in transloading, rail operations, transportation, logistics, chemical handling, manufacturing, warehousing, terminal operations, or another industrial environment is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate daily transloading and terminal activities
  • Lead, train, coach, schedule, and develop terminal employees
  • Conduct safety meetings and reinforce safe work practices
  • Ensure products are transferred safely and according to established procedures
  • Monitor productivity, labor utilization, operating expenses, and overall terminal performance
  • Help manage budgets and support established P&L objectives
  • Maintain accurate operational, safety, training, and customer documentation
  • Communicate with customers and address service or operational concerns
  • Identify operational problems and implement practical solutions
  • Ensure equipment, work areas, and terminal grounds are maintained appropriately
  • Support compliance with applicable company, customer, OSHA, EPA, FRA, and DOT requirements
  • Work outdoors and assist employees with operational responsibilities when circumstances require it
