About The Position

Cando Rail & Terminals is a provider of specialized rail operating services and terminal infrastructure for industrial shippers. Transload Operators provide safe and efficient railcar loading and unloading services for customers in a safety- and environmentally sensitive, customer-service-driven environment. They work collaboratively to maximize efficiency and safety while meeting customer schedules. The role includes operating transloading equipment, making product-transfer connections, inspecting and testing equipment and safety devices, reporting safety or equipment issues, completing required documentation, and supporting switching teams. Operators must comply with applicable operating rules, procedures, and regulations and promote safe work practices and a strong company image. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with weekend availability required as needed. This description is not intended to be a complete list of duties.

Requirements

• Locomotive operating experience is required.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and exercise stop-work authority when necessary.
• Ability to read, understand, and prepare general documentation, including safety briefings and policy and procedure manuals.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Physical ability to climb onto and off railcars and ladders; lift, maneuver, and connect hoses; secure railcar brakes; work safely at heights using fall-protection equipment; and operate derails and switches.
• Proficiency with technology and computer systems, including willingness and ability to use Microsoft Excel and Outlook daily.
• Ability to meet and maintain regulatory and customer requirements applicable to industrial switching at the site, including safety-critical medical requirements, customer safety certifications, and CROR certification.
• Ability to work safely in all weather conditions.
• Availability to work weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

• Previous transload operator experience.
• Experience handling dangerous goods and working with a variety of products in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate transloading equipment while applying applicable rules, special instructions, and procedures.
• Make connections for each product transfer.
• Perform daily inspections and testing of equipment and safety devices.
• Report safety and equipment problems.
• Comply with operating rules, switching procedures, and regulations imposed by government, the customer, and Cando; practice and promote safe work habits.
• Complete daily reports, logs, and other required documentation.
• Support switching teams as required.
• Participate actively with the team, provide excellent customer service, and promote a superior company image.
• Participate in training and company initiatives as required.
