The Translational Scientist PhD contributes to the development and execution of molecular, cellular, and pre-clinical studies to support the Hoag Family Cancer Institute’s Translational Oncology Laboratory. Maintains strong translational research experience with hands-on expertise in studies that utilize state-of-the-art molecular, genetic, cellular, and preclinical approaches to cancer therapeutics and diagnostics development. Works with a team of dedicated discovery scientists to perform laboratory-based research, providing both scientific and technical expertise. Interprets and presents findings and functions as an integral team member advancing hospital programs. Designs and executes research and research strategy. Integrates a deep understanding of cancer biology and other translational operations. Supports Translational study implementation teams. Provides subject matter expertise, translational science support/functional representation for collaborative studies. Executes and documents translational research lab procedures and protocols successfully independently. Writes and/or reviews policies, procedures, collaborative abstracts, posters, grants, and content for scientific meetings, conferences, and publications independently. Develops and adheres to IRB-approved and HIPAA-compliant protocols. Collects and handles biospecimens, including human blood and fresh tissue, to include preparation of tissues/materials, preparing buffers, solutions, and chemicals, processing of bulk tissue for cell sorting, culture, and freezing. Maintains rigorous documentation and tracking of information for all patient samples and experimental procedures, while maintaining quality control. Provides technical knowledge and guidance. Trains laboratory assistants and other personnel.
