About The Position

The Strategic Partner Oversight (SPO) team within the division of the Chief Operating Officer of State Street Investment Management (IM) is a group of experienced professionals responsible for overseeing critical outsourced services that support our investment process. We are seeking an Assistant Vice President to focus on oversight of investment services that support the Transition Management team within our Chief Investment Officer division– monitoring and governing transition management services delivered by our middle-office provider. In this role, you will ensure that all aspects of portfolio management for transition events interim portfolio management are planned, risk-managed, and executed seamlessly across asset classes, with robust controls, timely issue escalation in adherence to agreed service standards.

  • Investment operations expertise – Strong understanding of the end-to-end investment lifecycle and middle-office processes (trading, settlements, corporate actions, etc.) across multiple asset classes, including an appreciation for the risks and service requirements of portfolio transitions.
  • Accountability and ownership – A hands-on, responsible approach to oversight, taking initiative to own tasks and follow through on issue resolution and service improvements.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Finance, Business, or a related analytical discipline.
  • At least seven years of relevant industry experience in investment operations, transition management, middle-office oversight or similar roles within asset management or financial services.
  • Familiarity with outsourced service models and governance is highly beneficial.
  • Technical skills including proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Co-Pilot), and exposure to investment operations systems or data/reporting tools.

Nice To Haves

  • advanced degree or professional qualification such as CFA/FRM a plus
  • Experience with specialized transition management analytics or project management is a plus.
  • Knowledge of financial markets and understanding of portfolio transition strategies to effectively oversee multi-asset transitions.
  • Project management experience or certification is an advantage, given the planning and coordination aspects of transition events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide governance and oversight for all services supporting the transition management investment function provided by our strategic partner, establishing clear processes, controls, and review frameworks that ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. This includes developing and maintaining service governance structure, SLAs, and performing regular service reviews focused on outsourced services.
  • Act as the escalation point between IM investment teams (Portfolio Managers, Traders, Client Service) and the Middle Office provider, to rapidly resolve any issues.
  • Review key performance indicators (KPIs) and risk metrics (KRIs) for services supporting transition management activities. Analyze service reports and operational data to identify trends, control gaps, or service issues, raising improvement initiatives and ensuring provider accountability to high performance standards.
  • Lead regular governance meetings (e.g. monthly service reviews) with the service provider, relevant internal stakeholders, and the Middle Office provider client service teams. In these forums, track outstanding issues or incidents, and drive continuous service improvements in collaboration with the provider.
  • Manage risk and escalation processes. Document and track service issues, enforce timely escalation and resolution by the provider, and implement controls to mitigate future occurrences. You will provide clear, proactive communication to senior management about any material issues or risks arising during transition events.
  • Facilitate change and service enhancements by partnering with internal teams (e.g. Investment Operations, Portfolio Management, Compliance, Technology) and the external provider to refine transition processes, implement new regulatory or business requirements, and optimize the end-to-end operating model for transitions.
