About The Position

Transition House- Evergreen Transition House Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community. We’re looking for dedicated, empathetic individuals to help provide crucial support to those in need. As a Transition House Worker, you’ll empower clients by offering guidance, a safe space, and essential resources to navigate challenging moments. If you’re ready to provide compassionate care and make an impact, we want to hear from you! Reporting to the Program Manager, the Transition House Worker will provide guidance to clients in accessing confidential services such as financial aid, legal assistance, housing, and counseling. Key duties will include the following:

Requirements

  • Diploma in a related human or social service field
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong communication and crisis management skills
  • Genuine passion for assisting those in crisis
  • A strong knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by women, youth, and children affected by gender-based violence
  • Ability to provide support using a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach
  • Ability to mediate or facilitate healthy interactions among program clients
  • Effectively manage crisis situations
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • A current Level 1 First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License
  • A satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • This position is open to female applicants only
  • Undergo a Police Information Check (PIC)
  • Undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice

Responsibilities

  • Assess prospective clients for suitability, provide immediate safety assessments and short-term plans, and offer crisis intervention via support phone lines.
  • Create a safe environment, ensure access to nutritious food, hygiene products, and culturally specific items, and maintain hygienic living conditions.
  • Complete intake/discharge documentation, orient clients to program expectations, and provide non-discriminatory services to all.
  • Maintain safety, respond to critical incidents, and administer First Aid/CPR as needed.
  • Collaborate with mothers on children’s needs, offer respectful parenting support, and develop safety plans for children.
  • Provide woman-centered support, educate on abuse and rights, and offer referrals, supportive listening, and language interpretation.
  • Advocate for women’s needs with community agencies and address barriers to accessing services.
  • Build relationships with community and government agencies, represent the house in committees, and raise awareness about domestic violence.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential client records and document program-related expenses.
