About The Position

Under the supervision of Director, Special Education or special education teacher, to provide transition services to special education students. "Transition services" is a coordinated set of activities for a special education student, designed within an outcome-oriented process, which promotes movement from school to post-school activities. These include post-secondary education, vocational training, integrated employment (including supportive employment), continuing and adult education, adult services, independent living, or community participation. The coordinated set of activities must: (a) be based upon the individual student's needs; (b) take into account student's preferences and interests; and (c) include instruction, community experiences, the development of employment and other post-school adult living objectives, and if appropriate, the acquisition of daily living skills and functional vocational evaluation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • AA degree, 48 units beyond the high school diploma, or successful completion of the District Instructional Assistant Proficiency Test in reading, math
  • DOJ and FBI Criminal Background Check (Upon Conditional Offer of Employment)
  • TB Test within the last 60 days (Upon Conditional Offer of Employment)
  • Complete district Mandated Reporter training, Sexual Harassment, etc. (Upon Conditional Offer of Employment)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the care of children or adults with learning disabilities and/or emotional disturbances
  • Training in crisis intervention

Responsibilities

  • Provide transition services to special education students.
  • Facilitate movement from school to post-school activities including post-secondary education, vocational training, integrated employment, continuing and adult education, adult services, independent living, or community participation.
  • Develop and implement coordinated activities based on individual student needs, preferences, and interests.
  • Include instruction, community experiences, and development of employment and post-school adult living objectives.
  • Acquire daily living skills and functional vocational evaluation as appropriate.
