About The Position

Supervise, plan and coordinate motor coach route and paratransit activities and operations within the Operations Division of the Transit Department; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public and provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Transit Manager/Operations. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in business
  • Five (5) years of transit operator or transportation management experience
  • One (1) year of supervisory or lead experience
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with a Passenger (P) endorsement within a two week period from completion of City CDL training.
  • Must be able to maintain CDL once obtained.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the organization, staffing and operational activities for assigned motor coach and paratransit operations and services including monitoring the safety and performance of motor coach operators and sun van chauffeurs.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities; recommend and implement resulting policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identify resource needs; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.
  • Direct, coordinate and review the work plan for assigned motor coach transit services; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Coordinate City and special events with outside agencies; design alternative detours and routes for area affected; provide extended service during special events.
  • Participate in the development, revision and timing of new and established routes; review for accuracy.
  • Maintain records on daily motor coach and sun van routes; analyze and schedule personnel in order to meet transit needs.
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate motor coach and sun van personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
  • Provide staff assistance to the Transit Manager/Operations; participate on a variety of committees; prepare and present staff reports and other correspondence as appropriate and necessary.
  • Respond to and investigate a variety of emergencies, accidents and other related incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with federally mandated drug and alcohol testing requirements for motor coach operators and sun van chauffeurs.
  • Coordinate transit activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of transit services.
  • Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
