Under general supervision, operates buses and vans over fixed routes and shuttles. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, driving buses and vans to pick up passengers; collecting fares; issuing transfers; switching routes to meet the needs of passengers; maintaining timely routes; may perform charter assignments. Inspecting vehicles prior to starting routes; reporting mechanical issues; inspecting vehicle after completion of assigned route. Assisting passengers on and off vehicles; ensuring passengers are properly seated for transportation. Preparing various activity reports. Reporting daily service interruptions, including weather, medical emergencies, irate passengers or mechanical issues. Dropping vehicle vaults; counting daily revenue. May perform dispatch duties; taking appointment requests; providing information regarding transit schedules and times. May provide work direction and training to less-experienced drivers. Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintaining confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performing other duties as required or assigned. Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
