About The Position

High Valley Transit is seeking a Mechanic to join our maintenance team. In this role, you'll help keep our diverse fleet — vans, cutaway buses, and full-size transit buses, both diesel and electric — safe, reliable, and road-ready. Every bus that leaves the garage in good working order is a promise kept to the riders who depend on us — commuters getting to work, students getting to school, and neighbors getting where they need to go. Your work will make a difference in keeping our community connected.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
Vocational/technical training in automotive or diesel technology preferred
Valid driver's license required
Working knowledge of brake systems, HVAC, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance procedures
Ability to use diagnostic scan tools and standard mechanic's hand/power tools
Willingness to take direction and coaching
Team-oriented mindset — willing to share knowledge with other mechanics in the shop

Nice To Haves

CDL (Class B) preferred or willingness to obtain
Diesel engine experience is a plus but not required — training available for the right candidate
Familiarity with electric vehicle systems a plus
ASE certifications a plus (or willingness to pursue)

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on vans, cutaways, and full-size transit buses
Service and repair diesel and electric drivetrains, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and equipment
Perform routine inspections in compliance with DOT and other applicable safety regulations
Maintain accurate service records and work orders in the fleet maintenance system
Complete road calls and emergency repairs as needed
Order parts and maintain inventory of commonly used components
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety protocols and manufacturer specifications
