Join a multi-disciplinary team designing infrastructure that improves lives! We currently have an opening in our New York, NY office for a Transit Architect Director within our Buildings division. Key responsibilities will include working with, and coordinating, a multidisciplinary architectural/engineering team in the design and delivery of projects focused on transportation—metro transit projects in particular. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills and serve as interface and coordinator for various disciplines, clients, and consultants. The Transit Architect Director will manage architectural staff, organize and oversee the multidisciplinary team’s efforts to align to project/client needs, as well as set technical direction to elevate the quality of deliverables. Also key to this role is the championing of potential project pursuits, including responses to RFQ's, RFP's and other solicitations.

Requirements

  • Professional Degree in Architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch preferred)
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the transportation sector (design and project management of state-of-good-repair programs, ADA accessibility projects or rail transportation projects).
  • Transit Architecture design experience including station and related facilities is required.
  • Registered Licensed Architect in the State of New York is required.
  • Experience in the Design-Build delivery method is required.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite are required.
  • Excellent design, management, technical detailing, and strong presentation skills, both verbal and visual, are essential.
  • The candidate should be a self-starter with a passion for problem-solving, an understanding that project success comes through teamwork, and a firm focus on client needs.
  • Proven track record of overseeing multiple concurrent projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education, federal, justice, health + well-being, science + tech, and/or cities market sectors is a plus.
  • LEED Accreditation or similar is a plus.
  • Proficiency with OpenBuildings highly valued.

Responsibilities

  • Determine collectively with multiple design disciplines, the technical approach and design criteria for projects.
  • Contribute to and or lead responses to RFP’s and RFQ’s, including fees, schedule, staffing and project approach.
  • Lead and mentor junior architectural staff.
  • Perform independent investigations, studies, and architectural analysis.
  • Develop design details, plans and specifications.
  • Review shop drawings and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Serve as quality control reviewer.
  • Use computer software as a design tool for solving complex architectural problems.
  • Contribute new designs, or techniques that are of material significance in the solution of important problems.
  • Remain current in codes and technologies appropriate to the architecture discipline including IBC, NFPA, etc.
  • Ensure conformance with standards, established architectural practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction.
