The Medical University of South Carolina's (MUSC) Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks an academically-oriented board-certified Transfusion Medicine Physician. MUSC is the quaternary medical center for South Carolina, featuring a comprehensive transplant program, an NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center, Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital / Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion, Ashley River Tower, and Main Hospital. A dedicated Cancer Hospital is planned for construction within the next five years. The pathology department provides comprehensive services and has significant extramural funding, consistently ranking in the upper half of pathology departments nationally for NIH funding. The hospital supports a large solid organ transplant program (liver, kidney, heart, lung) and an adult and pediatric stem cell transplant program. Additionally, there are two Level 1 trauma centers. The transfusion service supports these services and other transfusion needs, providing over 50,000 blood products annually. The transfusion service physician also directs the cell therapy processing laboratory, which supports approximately 260 stem cell transplants and CAR-T procedures annually. The director of the processing laboratory must have at least 2 years of experience and/or training to qualify.
