Transformer Technician II

Native American Transformer Services, Inc.Reno, NV
$28 - $38Remote

About The Position

Native American Transformer Services, Inc. (NTS) is a Tribally-owned power transformer field services company operating on a national footprint. We partner with utilities, industrial clients, and EPC contractors to deliver transformer maintenance, testing, and commissioning services on some of the most technically demanding projects in the country. We're looking for a Transformer Technician II who brings real hands-on experience — someone who can troubleshoot a fresh unit with a factory anomaly just as confidently as they can work through a 40-year-old transformer with no original documentation. If you're the person on the crew who figures it out, we want to talk.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on transformer field service experience (utility, industrial, or EPC)
  • Valid CDL — Class A or B — required on Day 1
  • Proficiency with transformer test equipment: Doble, Megger, Vanguard, or equivalent
  • Ability to read single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and OEM factory test documentation
  • Working knowledge of NETA, IEEE C57, and NFPA 70E arc flash requirements
  • Experience with both new equipment commissioning and legacy transformer maintenance
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively — up to 100% nationally

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10/30 preferred
  • manufacturer certifications (GE, ABB, SPX/Waukesha, Siemens, Eaton) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, testing, and commissioning on power transformers across a national project footprint
  • Execute full diagnostic test suites: TTR, power factor, insulation resistance, SFRA, DGA, winding resistance, partial discharge
  • Lead commissioning activities including oil processing, vacuum procedures, pre-energization checks, and LTC calibration
  • Troubleshoot factory defects on new equipment using OEM factory test reports, design drawings, and nameplate data
  • Diagnose and repair aging/legacy transformers — often with incomplete documentation — using experience and first-principles thinking
  • Operate commercial vehicles (CDL required) to transport equipment and materials to job sites
  • Mentor Technician I team members and serve as lead tech on assigned jobs
  • Complete detailed field service reports and client turnover packages

Benefits

  • $28 – $38 per hour, based on experience
  • Overtime available on project assignments
  • Per diem provided for travel and extended site stays
  • Medical (Anthem Blue Cross) — 100% employer-paid
  • Dental (Humana) — 100% employer-paid
  • Vision (Humana) — 100% employer-paid
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Career path: Technician I → II → III → Field Supervisor / Project Lead
