Transaction Tax Senior Analyst

About The Position

Solaris is seeking an experienced Transaction Tax Senior Analyst to own the Company's sales and use tax, property tax, and other indirect tax compliance across a growing, multi-segment public company. In this role, you will manage monthly sales and use tax filings across the Company's operating states, coordinate property tax administration across multiple jurisdictions, lead taxability research and exemption certificate management, and partner with the controller groups, Operations, and external advisors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive transaction/indirect tax experience (sales & use, property tax); experience weighed more heavily than degree
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word (SAP experience a plus)
  • Working knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax compliance, taxability research, and exemption certificate management.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local indirect tax regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong Excel skills; comfortable extracting and manipulating data from ERP and billing systems.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with documented research and audit-trail habits.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, CMI (Sales Tax or Property Tax), or other relevant tax certification is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and timely file monthly sales and use tax returns across the Company's operating states; expand to additional jurisdictions as new contracts and operations come online.
  • Manage the exemption certificate lifecycle - solicit, validate, track, and maintain customer and vendor certificates.
  • Research and document taxability conclusions for new products, services, contracts, and operating jurisdictions; maintain an internal taxability matrix.
  • Lead new state and local sales and use tax registrations as the business expands into new jurisdictions.
  • Support sales and use tax audits, respond to taxing-authority notices, and coordinate with external advisors on audit defense.
  • Coordinate annual property tax rendition filings across the Company's operating jurisdictions with external advisors.
  • Review tax bills before payment.
  • Maintain property tax accrual schedules, post journal entries, and support monthly close, including customer passthrough billing where applicable.
  • Review and approve Texas Heavy Equipment filings.
  • Perform other duties or projects as required to support business goals.
