About The Position

The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment for transportation operations. This role involves managing and supervising various work teams and transportation crews, planning work for upcoming shifts, and participating in daily operational conference calls. The supervisor develops, supports, and coordinates the operations of various work teams and train movements. Key administrative tasks include preparing reports and rigorous workforce planning. The position requires coordinating transportation department activities in accordance with applicable collective agreements and managing certain disciplinary matters. A critical aspect is understanding and meeting customer expectations, providing professional customer service, ensuring delivery deadlines, and informing customers of any delays. The supervisor also manages work schedules, ensures employee safety by confirming accident reports, adherence to safety policies, and strict respect for operating rules, and prepares various company reports.

Requirements

  • College diploma in Administration and/or Management, and/or relevant experience in the railroad industry.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the railroad industry.
  • Qualification in Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).
  • High level of flexibility regarding work hours in order to oversee all work teams and interact with various customers.
  • Bilingual in French and English, both spoken and written. English is required to communicate with clients and colleagues in the United States.
  • Strong adaptability and flexibility in a constantly changing environment.
  • Willingness to work weekends and occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Proficiency with common word processing, database, and email software.

Nice To Haves

  • Qualification as a Conductor and/or Locomotive Engineer is considered an asset.
  • Experience in personnel management is a significant asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe work environment for transportation operations.

  • Manage transportation crews, plan work for upcoming shifts, and participate in daily operational conference calls.
  • Develop, support, and coordinate the operations of various work teams as well as train movements.
  • Perform various administrative tasks and reports, and maintain a rigorous approach to workforce planning.
  • Coordinate transportation department activities in accordance with the applicable collective agreement, while being responsible for managing certain disciplinary matters within the group.
  • Understand the requirements of various customers in order to meet their expectations and improve existing processes when necessary, with the objective of exceeding customer expectations.
  • Provide professional customer service, meet delivery deadlines, and inform customers of any delays.
  • Manage work schedules and keep them up to date (replacement and availability lists, overtime control).
  • Ensure employee safety by confirming that accidents are reported, safety policies are followed, and operating rules are strictly respected.
  • Prepare various reports as required by the company.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
