About The Position

Responsible for leading, developing, designing, implementing, executing, and evaluating training programs for the Operations Department, and other CDL- required driving positions, in a safe and efficient manner. Will also assist in the supervision of the daily operations. The Training Supervisor provides classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training of newly hired operators to ensure successful completion of training and testing. This role also evaluates accidents and incidents of revenue service operators to improve service delivery, evaluates new trainees, new revenue service operators, and current revenue service operators, and focuses on continuous improvement of the safety of daily operations. The Training Supervisor recommends sign-off of operators into revenue service. Additionally, this role works proactively to meet all federal and state requirements to become a certified CDL instructor in Vermont, eventually leading GMT's independent, in-house Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) program. As an Operations Supervisor, this role assists in overseeing field operations to help ensure the safety and security of employees, passengers, and the public. This includes supporting and assisting Bus Operators, providing in-the-moment feedback and training, and providing customer service through daily interaction with passengers, the community, and GMT’s community partners. The role ensures all manifests and scheduled routes are performed in a timely and accurate manner, monitors and manages Bus Operator compliance with route and schedule adherence, services detours/road closures and other interruptions to transit service, and adjusts service accordingly. It also monitors on-time performance (OTP) and manages OTP digital integrity, observes and reports information to GMT Operations management, drives a transit bus in revenue service, non-revenue service, or as required by GMT management, and facilitates and implements new bid schedules. The Training Supervisor also conducts reasonable suspicion assessments as required, maintains a safe and healthy work environment by establishing and enforcing organization standards and adhering to legal regulations, and makes and/or recommends disciplinary action when Bus Operators violate company standards and legal regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 years
  • CDL and clean driving record are required
  • Familiarity with transportation service areas and knowledge of safe and efficient operation of buses and transit routes are beneficial
  • Ability to be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Mail
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population
  • Work effectively in an environment with multiple competing priorities
  • Exercise good judgment as situations arise
  • Must be able to safely and effectively drive every bus in GMT’s fleet
  • Must be able to effectively use office technology. This includes but is not limited to standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines. For computers, the incumbent must be well versed in email, word processing software, spreadsheet software, and using shared resources, such as Google Documents
  • Obtain and maintain Smith System certification and apply the training to effectively instruct and coach other employees in safe-driving practices
  • Possesses and maintains a valid Commercial Driver's License (class B) with a Passenger endorsement
  • Possesses a valid Department of Transportation physical examination certification

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a transit-related field is preferred. A combination of experience and education may be substituted.
