About The Position

A public safety emergency communications organization in Washington, DC is seeking a Training Specialist to support workforce development within a 911 call center environment. This role is responsible for delivering new-hire training, continuing education, and ongoing professional development for emergency communications personnel. The Training Specialist plays a key role in maintaining operational readiness, consistency, and compliance through effective instructional design and training delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Minimum 2 years of experience as an emergency communications operator in a 911 call center environment
• Strong knowledge of 9-1-1 emergency dispatching and communications systems , policies, procedures, and equipment
• Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations
• Familiarity with modern training practices and current developments in emergency communications education
• Understanding of accepted principles, methods, and best practices for training and staff development in emergency communications
• Ability to design and deliver effective training programs
• Ability to train on and operate E-911 systems , including Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) , criminal information networks, and phone systems
• Ability to develop written materials such as policies, standard operating procedures, bulletins, and training notifications
• Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, accurate documentation and evaluations
• Ability to multitask and rapidly assess emergency communication scenarios to respond appropriately

Responsibilities

• Conduct new-hire training, refresher courses, and continuing education programs
• Develop, coordinate, implement, and deliver training programs for both new and experienced employees
• Monitor trainee performance, progress, and readiness for independent duty
• Manage training schedules, assignments, and learning activities
• Assess training effectiveness and recommend improvements
• Ensure training content aligns with operational standards, policies, and procedures
• Support ongoing professional development initiatives within emergency communications
