About The Position

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Civil Commitment Unit for Sex Offenders (CCUSO) is seeking a Training Specialist 1 to join our team! This is a full-time position with opportunity for advancement, growth, and development scheduled Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. or as assigned by management. The Training Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality training to new employees and ensuring that existing staff meet their annual requirements, including Basic Life Saving, Pro-Act, and Safe Clinch. Candidates must be able to obtain instructor licenses for these trainings. The role requires strong communication skills, the ability to prepare and organize training materials, and the flexibility to develop new training content to meet the needs of a growing facility. Candidates should be self-motivated, able to complete assigned tasks independently, and willing to take on additional responsibilities as directed by management. Applicants will be required to complete a background check to be considered for this position. CCUSO provides a secure, long-term, and highly structured setting to treat sexual offenders who have served their prison terms, but, in a separate civil trial, have been found likely to reoffend. The facility provides state-of-the-art treatment to patients to lower their risk of re-offending and to release them from confinement as quickly as possible. There is a full range of diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitative services focused on addressing the conditions impacting a patient’s likelihood of re-offending.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time work experience in professional training, teaching, course development, facilitation, or counseling within an educational setting; professional human resources administration including such areas as job analysis, performance appraisal, selection devices, or labor relations; or a technical program area utilized by the employing agency.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field.
  • A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three years of full-time work as described in number one.
  • Ability to obtain instructor licenses for trainings.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare and organize training materials.
  • Flexibility to develop new training content.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks independently.
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities.
  • Completion of a background check.
