About The Position

The Research Animal Resource Center’s Education and Quality Assurance department is looking for a talented Training and QA Specialist to join their team. This role serves as an independent and objective viewpoint to promote a culture of compliance in a manner consistent with institutional policies, goals, and objectives. The specialist will conduct regularly scheduled quality assurance reviews of the animal care program as well as research laboratories where animals are used, and prepare reports to the IACUC on matters of non-compliance, working towards resolutions. This role involves partnership with other RARC departments and research teams to communicate policies and SOPs, and provide education on standard processes. Key responsibilities include developing, scheduling, and implementing training and facility orientation sessions, providing hands-on training to research staff on rodent handling and surgical procedures, assessing technical skills, and providing expertise in rodent technical procedures. The specialist will also assist in the development of RARC standard operating procedures pertaining to compliance and training.

Requirements

  • 4-7 years of experience in research support, compliance, or training related to animal models.
  • Veterinary Technician education, bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Certification at the AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LAT) level.
  • Proven experience in rodent technical procedures and research compliance.
  • A high level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Eager to collaborate but feels equally comfortable with independent work.
  • Basic knowledge of occupational health requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) administration preferred but not required.
  • Experience with the safety requirements needed for hazard agents preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess technical skills and provide expertise in rodent technical procedures.
  • Assist in the development of RARC standard operating procedures pertaining to compliance and training.
  • Handle the responsibility of compliance inspections.
  • Lead all aspects of implementation of the hazardous material program.
