About The Position

The Training Coordinator orchestrates and oversees the planning and execution of New Employee Orientation and the Detention Academy training programs. With a focus on providing a positive experience for employees who are new to the Juvenile Probation Department, the Training Coordinator delivers comprehensive training to promote positive change, and connection to the community through the use of fairness, dignity, and respect.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Four (4) years of full-time professional-level experience as a trainer or training facilitator OR Combined Education and Experience Qualifications: Relevant education may substitute for years of experience on a year-for-year basis
  • Full-time experience working with justice-involved youth or experience working directly within the Judicial Branch may substitute for the professional-level trainer or training facilitator experience on a year-for-year basis
  • Must possess or obtain a valid Arizona Driver License by the time of hire.
  • Positions in Detention are subject to Tuberculosis (TB) testing.
  • All offers of employment are subject to the successful completion of new employee processing and a negative TB result prior to the start date.
  • Candidates will be required to successfully complete a background/reference check prior to hire.
  • Knowledge of: Adult learning theory. Microsoft Office applications. Educational training theories and techniques. Group dynamics, human behavior, and adult learning styles. Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. Business English and grammar.
  • Skill in: Effectively presenting information. Being organized, analyzing information and making appropriate decisions. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. The use of computer applications including email, spreadsheets, databases, and word-processing software. Working independently and as a team member, maintaining composure, and being effective in an environment with changing priorities. Developing and coordinating various projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of class development in group dynamics, adolescent development, trauma-informed care, behavior management, and an understanding of Adult Learning Theories.
  • Experience working in a Juvenile Detention, residential placement, or other Juvenile Justice setting.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate major components of the Juvenile Detention Academy and New Employee Orientation training program to include scheduling instructors and preparing the training catalog and materials.
  • Deliver training programs that impart knowledge and understanding of the Arizona judiciary and the legal process and increase the participant's understanding of the responsibilities of his or her position and its impact on the judicial process.
  • Deliver training programs that increase participant knowledge and use of evidence-based practices, positive youth development, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Foster and promote a culture of hope and the belief that all youth can be successful, with no exceptions.
  • Utilize Adult Learning Theory to deliver curricula.
  • Design and prepare guides, manuals, visual aids, and other training materials appropriate to the class being delivered.
  • Conduct training for special projects and initiatives.
  • Consult with internal and external customers regarding training issues.
  • Recommend and implement appropriate solutions to challenges that arise.
  • Respond to customer inquiries received in person, via telephone, and by e-mail using available resources.
  • Assist with operational functions of the training program as needed in coordination with teammates and stakeholders.
  • Work cooperatively with all levels of employees within Juvenile Probation of Maricopa County, other Judicial Branch departments, and Juvenile Justice Stakeholder agencies.
  • Comply with training program guidelines established by Administrative Order of the Supreme Court and the JPD leadership.
  • Lead and/or participate in focus groups.
