About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Central Office, Quality and System Improvement Division, within Education Support and Staff Development, has one Trainer vacancy located in Wallingford. This recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies located in Cheshire, Hartford, Stratford, and/or Windham (Willimantic). The incumbents will provide compliance training to over 300 staff a year. DDS partners with the individuals we support and their families, to support lifelong planning and to join with others to create and promote meaningful opportunities for individuals to fully participate as valued members of their communities.

Requirements

Six (6) years of technical experience in training, staff development, or adult education.
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
A Master's degree in a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
Successful completion of a Connecticut Careers Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted for the General Experience.
Knowledge of principles and techniques of training and staff development; education methods and techniques
Considerable interpersonal skills
Oral and written communication skills
Ability to assess training needs and determine objectives
Ability to develop, organize and conduct training courses
Ability to utilize computer software

Nice To Haves

Candidates certified in American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) as a Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor to train both blended and classroom format
Experience with modern methods of adult teaching and learning
Experience with SABA, Cornerstone or another Learning Management System used to create, track, and report trainings
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including experience utilizing the more advanced functionalities of Excel
Experience with online learning design tools such as Canva, Articulate, or Adobe Express
Experience teaching, employing best practices of training, and providing staff development
Experience developing, organizing, and conducting training courses in an interactive, participant-focused style, with a focus on creativity and flexibility
Experience presenting curriculum in its written form as well as in its entirety
Experience operating and troubleshooting technical problems for multiple types of equipment typically used in training presentations (e.g. laptops, PCs, projectors, sound systems, etc.)
Experience problem-solving current and planning for future problems using logical judgement
Experience successfully implementing new initiatives while balancing competing priorities and/or stakeholders
Hold certification as a current Physical and/or Behavioral Modification Technique Certified Instructor (such as PMT) to teach courses both in classroom and blended formats such as webinars
Experience proctoring and grading exams, specifically Medication Administration or another clinical component

Responsibilities

Prepare and conduct training courses
Assist in planning, developing, coordinating and evaluating comprehensive training programs
Conduct needs assessments
Develop course objectives, curricula, outlines and contents
Select and develop training methods and materials
Research learning material and resources
Monitor and evaluate training courses and participants progress
Provide technical assistance and consultation
Maintain records and prepare reports
Organize and maintain a library of training materials
May conduct drills and exercises
Travel to various locations to conduct training
