About The Position

Beacon is a national behavioral health company providing residential-based services and supports to children and adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Severe Mental Illness, Autism, and high-acuity behaviors. This role is within the Learning and Development department and is responsible for improving the quality of work and productivity of the organization's employees by assessing developmental needs, driving training initiatives, and identifying suitable training solutions. The Trainer monitors industry training regulations to ensure 100% compliance across supported Beacon markets and fosters a culture of continuous learning. All activities must comply with company policies, accreditation standards, state and federal licensing requirements, HCBS guidelines, and contractual requirements of Community Mental Health Agencies.

  • Ability to learn and become proficient with current and future IT systems deployed by BSLS.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Instructional design, Education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience as a trainer/training facilitator, educator, or similar role.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
  • Highly organized and motivated.
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English required.
  • Must maintain trainer certification in a de-escalation program (CPI, SCM, HWC, Ukeru).
  • Must maintain trainer certification in CPR, QPR, Gentle Teaching, or other programs as required by Beacon Leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and deliver engaging and effective training sessions, workshops, and virtual instructor-led courses to meet company goals, objectives, and standards.
  • Implement all regulated and developmental training for assigned Beacon areas, including onboarding, orientation, shadow shifts, and competency training for Direct Support Professionals (Level 0-5) and direct care staff.
  • Ensure all Beacon training courses consistently meet state licensing requirements.
  • Complete or facilitate all required training for annual certifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a positive and empowering environment that challenges employees and promotes a caring, people-first attitude.
  • Provide area communications regarding training and development events and resources, and contribute information for the corporate training calendar.
  • Coordinate and schedule training sessions to minimize disruption to daily operations.
  • Provide training as assigned, including live sessions, virtual instructor-led sessions, and monitoring of virtual training on the company learning management system (LMS).
  • Foster a positive learning environment that encourages employee engagement and participation, adjusting for learning styles and understanding.
  • Monitor training and development needs for all DSPs and staff to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Consult with BSLS managers and supervisors to assess training needs and support their development.
  • Observe and ensure all operations and company policies are understood and followed in homes during post-training follow-up visits, engaging staff in corrections and providing feedback.
  • Promote a robust learning-based environment and ensure staff access to training and educational opportunities.
  • Provide feedback to subject-matter experts on instructional design and training techniques.
  • Provide documentation and reporting on training activities, ensuring all training documentation is received for storage in employee LMS files daily.
  • Monitor and document training compliance tracking to ensure accurate reports, and review reports with operational leadership.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the leadership team's training report.
  • Conduct follow-up studies of completed training to evaluate and measure results.
  • Work effectively as a team member with management, HR, and Recruiting staff.
  • Assist with job fairs and hiring events, providing feedback to recruiters on new hire quality.
  • Participate in weekly onboarding calls to review orientation progress for new hires.
  • Meet weekly productivity goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
