About The Position

This is a 24-month skill development opportunity designed to help individuals build qualifications, capability, and hands-on experience in recreation and outdoor program delivery, while creating memorable experiences for people across NSW. The traineeship is for individuals who enjoy working with others, thrive outdoors, and want to build a career in recreation, outdoor education, or community engagement. Based at Berry Sport & Recreation Centre, the trainee will work alongside experienced professionals delivering engaging programs for schools, community groups, sporting organisations, and holiday camp participants. The program combines structured learning with practical experience to develop the knowledge, confidence, and capability to deliver safe, inclusive, and engaging recreation experiences. Upon successful completion, there is an opportunity for a six-month placement as a Program Officer across multiple Sport and Recreation Centres in NSW.

Requirements

• Obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check (WWCC).
• Complete a National Criminal History Record Check.
• Participate in a pre-employment medical assessment and any ongoing health monitoring required for the role.

Responsibilities

• Supporting school camps, community groups, sporting organisations, holiday camps and special events.
• Delivering fun, safe and engaging activities that encourage participation, teamwork, leadership and resilience.
• Adapting activities to meet the needs of different age groups, abilities and participant needs.
• Setting up, maintaining and packing down activity areas and equipment.
• Providing exceptional customer service and creating positive participant experiences.
• Working alongside experienced staff to understand and apply Office of Sport safety and risk management practices.
• Developing skills in communication, leadership, teamwork and group facilitation.
• Helping create experiences that inspire people to be active, connect with others and challenge themselves.
