About The Position

This is an entry-level position within the Instrument & Electrician (I&E) Journeyman and I&E Foreman line of progression in Power Generation (i.e. Power Plants). I&E Trainees periodically rotate through assignments at the various power plants and the coal yard.

Requirements

  • Certificate of Completion from a formal Industrial Electrical Program or Associates degree in Industrial Electrical related program, or Texas State Electrical Journeyman’s License, or Power Plant Electrical Journeyman experience.
  • Experience with hand tools and electrical measurement test instruments; good electrical and mechanical ability
  • Ability to perform and demonstrate basic mathematics, measurements, and the use of electrical test measurement instruments and meters.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely at heights, in confined spaces, around electrical facilities, in extreme temperature ranges, and in adverse temperature conditions
  • Ability to work at various locations, perform shift work, call duty, and overtime as required
  • Demonstrate ability to distinguish colors in order to identify electronic components and wiring codes
  • Ability to perform physically strenuous activity over sustained periods of time
  • Ability to work in an environment that includes high noise levels and exposure to extreme environmental conditions such as heat, cold, smoke, dust, fumes, heights, etc.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolds and work at high elevations (up to and over 200 feet) on scaffolding, cable climbers and personnel-lifting equipment
  • Ability to pass a functional physical exam, which includes but is not limited to demonstrating the ability to lift/move/transport heavy objects
  • Ability to drive various sizes of company CDL and non-CDL vehicles
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a history of a safe driving record in accordance with CPSE policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable laws and regulations
  • Must demonstrate commitment to the CPS Energy Core Values of Trust, Safety, Performance, Respect, Teamwork and Customer Commitment.
  • Must pass Mechanical, Reading and Math Aptitude test to be considered for an interview

Responsibilities

  • Assisting Instrumentation and Electrical Journeymen with maintenance / repair of all power plant equipment and system components associated with the normal or emergency performance of their job.
  • Assisting the Journeymen with the fabrication of parts and system components.
  • Operating various company equipment such as power tools, personnel lifts and forklifts.
  • Must successfully complete a five-year training program according to specified training and qualification guidelines. Steps through the line of progression will require training, exams, and on-the-job proficiency demonstrations. Failure to satisfactorily complete the progression steps may result in action up to termination of employment.
  • Must be available to work overtime or call-ins whenever necessary.
