About The Position

Join the Limestone Coast Local Health Network as a Trainee Clinical Coder and develop specialised skills within our Clinical Coding team. Working under the guidance of the Clinical Coding Documentation Auditor & Educator, you will undertake structured training to accurately translate medical and procedural information into ICD-10-AM codes. Your work will contribute to reliable health data, hospital planning, research and Activity Based Funding. As your skills develop, you will progress to increasingly complex patient episodes while building your coding accuracy, efficiency and knowledge of clinical documentation and coding standards. This position is offered for 12 months, with right of renewal for a further 12 months subject to Clinical Coding audits achieving an error rate of less than 13%.

Requirements

Successfully completed a recognised HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding or equivalent, with demonstrated competency in current ICD-10-AM coding; or be nearing completion of a recognised HLT50321 Diploma of Clinical Coding where sponsored by LCLHN or SA Health Health Information Governance Unit.
Demonstrate organisational, analytical and numeracy skills, with the ability to integrate, interpret and apply information to produce accurate coded clinical data.
Knowledge of the current ICD-10-AM and ACHI Classification Systems, National and South Australian Coding Standards and relevant medical terminology.
Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, use initiative and work effectively as part of a team.
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with medical, nursing, administrative and other health professionals.
A current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) for employment involving unsupervised contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position.
Immunisation Risk for this position is – Category B.
SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy.

Responsibilities

Accurately translate medical and procedural information into ICD-10-AM codes.
Contribute to reliable health data, hospital planning, research and Activity Based Funding.
Progress to increasingly complex patient episodes while building coding accuracy, efficiency, and knowledge of clinical documentation and coding standards.
Translate diagnoses and procedures documented within patient medical records into standardized clinical codes.
Support statistical analysis, epidemiology, hospital planning, research, quality patient care and the assignment of Australian Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (AR-DRGs).
