About The Position

Train Operators are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the train on a daily basis, which includes taking tickets, driving the train, and memorizing and delivering a speech during the ride. This role is classified as Guest Services Part-Time Staff, with potential overlap into other Guest Services duties as needed. All staff are expected to possess basic knowledge of zoo operations and events to assist guests and ensure a memorable visit. The position transitions to a general Guest Services Part-Time role during the winter months when the train is closed, and reopens in the spring. Requirements

  • No education or experience is required.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Resume is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous cash handling experience.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Other related experience may be preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Train safely by giving safety speeches at the beginning and end of each ride and watching the riders to ensure they’re following rules.
  • Operate the Train efficiently in order to keep lines moving without sacrificing the quality of the ride.
  • Produce high-quality guest interactions with all guests at the zoo.
  • Provide general information about the Zoo on a day-to-day basis.
  • Have knowledge of prohibited items.
  • Assist guests who are inquiring about our membership program.
  • Have knowledge of the rules and policies of the Train and Carousel.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other tasks as assigned by Team Leads and Supervisors.
  • Commitment to the zoo’s mission and conservation efforts.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Assist guests when they purchase tickets for admission and rides and ensure guests get the best option for their needs.
  • Sell admission and upsell ride and animal feeding tickets to guests at the front entrance and inside the Zoo.
  • Scan admission tickets and memberships for guests entering the Zoo.
  • Assist with Field Trips to make sure they do not overcrowd the entry plaza.
  • Assist with Field Trips by checking paperwork, counting student and chaperone numbers, and ensuring everyone knows and follows policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the parking of School Buses.
