About The Position

The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for keeping the C.H.I. Overhead Doors trucking fleet safe, compliant, and operational. Working from a DOT preventive maintenance schedule and responding to day-to-day repair needs from our in-house driver team, this role is the front line of fleet reliability at our Arthur, IL facility. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Requirements

Valid driver's license

Nice To Haves

DOT air brake certification
Completion of a certificate program or technical training in mechanics and truck repair
Experience working on and driving CDL-A equipment
DOT annual inspector qualification certification
Experience in a trailer shop and/or maintenance shop environment
Knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, and ABS brake systems
Welding or fabrication experience

Responsibilities

Perform scheduled DOT preventive maintenance on semi-trailers and tractor-trailers per established maintenance lists
Diagnose and repair air brake systems, ABS systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems
Perform axle work, tire repair, and tire replacement
Complete light trailer body work including patching and minor structural repairs
Perform minor welding and fabrication (e.g., mud flap bracket repair and replacement)
Conduct general maintenance including lubrication and greasing of components
Test equipment and systems to verify performance after repair
Replace worn or failed parts and components
Receive and respond to ad hoc work orders submitted by in-house drivers as they arise
Document all repairs accurately and completely
Follow all OSHA regulations, safety requirements, and DOT road safety standards at all times
