About The Position

The Trailer Mechanic position at QRS Shops offers competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package. This role involves diagnosing and repairing tractors and trailers, performing various inspections including annual, 90-day, and HM-183 (tankers) to ensure compliance with Federal FHWA standards. Responsibilities also include operating a yard hostler truck to move trailers, ordering parts, adhering to safety and environmental policies, maintaining a clean work environment, and utilizing welding equipment. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in trailer, hazmat tanker, and medium-duty truck repair, along with knowledge of vehicle systems and DOT regulations. A high school diploma or GED is required.

Requirements

  • Must possess at least 3 years of experience in repair and service of trailers, hazmat tankers, and medium duty trucks.
  • Required to have demonstrated knowledge of vehicle and equipment theory, principles and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience of tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations.
  • Ability to use vehicle diagnostic software.
  • Minimum of 2 years as a fleet mechanic.
  • Minimum of 3 years of DOT HM-183 certification, Training or experience.
  • High school diploma, completion of G.E.D. required.

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Certification not required but recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
  • Perform annual/systematic 90 day and HM-183 inspections (tankers) on equipment as required.
  • Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
  • Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and the shop as needed.
  • Order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
  • Adheres to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards to include identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
  • Using welding equipment.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Perform HM-183 DOT inspections on tankers (P,V,I,K,L,HS,UC,) (EPA-M27).
