About The Position

The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining trailers to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role supports fleet operations through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, and repair services while ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically skilled, safety-focused, and committed to minimizing equipment downtime and keeping trailers road-ready.

  • Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
  • Ability to provide and maintain basic hand tools; specialty diagnostic tools preferred

  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) services on trailers, including inspections, adjustments, repairs, and routine servicing
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and ABS system issues
  • Repair, replace, and adjust trailer components, including brakes, air systems, suspensions, lighting systems, and related equipment
  • Inspect trailers to identify maintenance needs and ensure safe operation
  • Respond to breakdowns and urgent repair requests to support fleet operations
  • Conduct DOT inspections and ensure trailers meet federal, state, and company safety requirements
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations and company standards
  • Identify and report safety concerns, equipment issues, and operational risks
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and repair records
  • Complete work orders and service documentation accurately and on time
  • Communicate repair status, equipment concerns, and maintenance needs to management
  • Support fleet maintenance planning and scheduling efforts
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including service bays, tools, equipment, and staging areas
  • Assist with shop organization, waste disposal, and general housekeeping activities
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored
  • Work closely with drivers, operations personnel, and management to minimize downtime and support fleet readiness
  • Assist with troubleshooting and technical support as needed
  • Support training and knowledge-sharing efforts within the maintenance team
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
