About The Position

This position is for a Trailer Mechanic responsible for performing maintenance and repair services on 48ft. and 53ft. dry van trailers. The role requires a fundamental understanding of various trailer components, including suspension, running gear, landing gear, wheels, tires, brakes, air systems, electrical systems, lighting, doors, frame, sides, nose, and roof. The mechanic will also perform preventative maintenance inspections, welding, metal fabrication, and service calls. The job involves road testing vehicles, maintaining a clean and safe work environment compliant with OSHA and company standards, and accurately recording work in the EMS system. Collaboration with the Parts Department for inventory management and adherence to EPA, DOT, and company safety regulations are also key aspects of the role. Requirements

  • Possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to pass a drug screen.
  • Consistently positive attitude, interacting courteously and professionally with fellow employees.

  • Dependent upon having a CDL.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance service in which the volume and quality of work is within the acceptably measured standards for Dayton Freight Lines.
  • Repair and rebuild components on 48ft. and 53ft. dry van trailers, including suspension and running gear, landing gear assembly, wheel components and tires, brake and air components, electrical, lighting and wiring components, rear frame and door components, side, nose and roof components, and interior and floor components.
  • Thoroughly perform Preventative Maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Maintain a high level of welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Perform service calls.
  • Wash and fuel equipment when necessary.
  • Road test vehicles to ensure quality repair services were performed.
  • Pro-actively assist, guide and direct junior technicians.
  • Be a leading participant in the care and upkeep of the shop, the grounds and all equipment and tools.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment that complies to OSHA and company standards.
  • Record all work and labor on a computer in the EMS system.
  • Work with the Parts Department to assure that all necessary materials, parts, service and shop supplies are maintained at proper quantity levels.
  • Work in compliance to EPA regulations as well as DOT and company safety requirements.
  • Perform other maintenance duties or assignments when necessary.
