About The Position
This is a Technician Specialist role at XPO, focused on assisting with trailer maintenance, service, and repairs. The apprentice will gain experience necessary to meet FMCSA requirements, complete component replacements, and perform maintenance on trailer doors and SafeStack Systems. The role involves working alongside experienced technicians, documenting activities on repair orders, operating specialized tooling, and maintaining a clean and safe work area. Interaction with operations and shop management is also a part of the daily tasks.
Requirements
- A valid driver’s license
- Basic mechanical skills
- Basic computer skills for documenting maintenance, service, and repair activities
- Able to perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation
- Desire to become a trailer mechanic
- Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
- Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally more than 75 lbs.
- Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
- Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience
- Prior mechanical training or experience such as automotive or skilled trades
- Own a set of basic hand tools
- Have a desire to become a Technician Level 1
- One (1) year verifiable previous experience with heavy-duty maintenance
Responsibilities
- Assist with trailer inspections and brake replacement to gain the experience necessary to meet requirements of FMCSA 396.19 and 396.25
- Complete component replacements
- Perform maintenance, service, and repairs on trailer doors and SafeStack Systems to units parked at the dock
- Work alongside technicians in the shop to complete minor trailer repairs
- Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activities
- Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
- Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and well-maintained by reporting any damage or negligence to management immediately
- Interact with operations management and shop management

- Expected pay range: $22.85 to $24.32 per hour
- Annual step progression for pay
- $1/hour increase for 2nd shift
