About The Position

The Trailer Maintenance Shop Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, and repairing commercial semi-trailers and heavy-duty transport equipment. The primary focus is to ensure the trailer remains safe, highly reliable, and fully compliant with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) regulations.

Requirements

  • 1 to 5+ years of hands-on mechanical experience working on heavy-duty commercial trailers, medium/heavy trucks, or equivalent vocational training.
  • Strong proficiency using hand tools, power tools, jacks, torches, and welding/cutting equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical and air system schematics.
  • Ability to lift up to 50-75 lbs regularly, bend, kneel, crawl, and stand for extended periods in a shop environment.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

  • CDL is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine safety checks, scheduled maintenance, and lubing on brakes, suspension, axles, and landing gear systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, lighting systems, ABS brakes, air lines, and hydraulic components.
  • Repair or replace damaged flooring, rub rails, aluminum body panels, roofs, and doors using welding and fabrication equipment (MIG/Stick).
  • Conduct comprehensive DOT inspections and document all findings, parts used, and repair hours accurately within the shop management system.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace, adhering strictly to OSHA and company safety guidelines.
