About The Position

The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in keeping plant equipment and systems running efficiently to support production and facility operations. This role involves performing a mix of preventive and corrective maintenance across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and building systems. Daily tasks include diagnosing issues, replacing parts, inspecting machinery, and executing repairs using hand and power tools. Work is guided by structured maintenance schedules, equipment manuals, and production needs. The technician also contributes to emergency repairs, facility upkeep, and continuous improvement efforts to reduce downtime and maintain operational standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Mechanical experience with heavy equipment and diesel engines.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities as well as working with heavy machinery.
  • Ability to work with a variety of tools, testing equipment and on-board computers.
  • Must possess good communications skills, both written and verbal.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of experience in heavy duty tractor/trailer repair is preferred.
  • May require a valid DOT physical card and a driver’s license.
  • Certification in the use of refrigerants and recycling equipment may be required.
  • Experience with Volvo VN series tractors and Volvo Tech-Tool diagnostic equipment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of XRS (electronic logging device) preferred.
  • A/C and air brake certifications are preferred.
  • Experience in working as a member of a team to achieve common goals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on tractors, trailers and other transportation equipment at specified mileage intervals as outlined in the preventative maintenance schedule to include engine, drive train, electrical, body, suspension, brakes, lights, safety equipment, etc.
  • Inspect equipment and perform necessary repairs to ensure safe operation of the equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems and equipment malfunctions.
  • Make road calls locally or assist drivers via telephone if they are experiencing problems with equipment while on the road.
  • Mechanics must provide and use their own basic tools and a locking toolbox. Large or specialized tools are provided by the company.
  • Mechanics are required to complete work orders, change job assignments as needed, work independently and manage their time effectively to maximize output, or work together with other team members to ensure safe and efficient operations resulting in minimal downtime for equipment.
  • Working as scheduled, following instructions, work rules, company policies and safety procedures are all essential functions of the job.
  • Full-time work and overtime if compelled are required. May work on the day shift or night shift.
  • Mechanics must have the ability to drive a repair vehicle on public highways to perform emergency repairs on the road.
