About The Position

The Technician Specialist role at XPO is designed for individuals with a desire to become a trailer mechanic. This position involves assisting with trailer inspections, brake replacements, component replacements, and performing maintenance on trailer doors and SafeStack Systems. You will work alongside experienced technicians to complete minor trailer repairs, document job times and parts on repair orders, and operate specialized tooling and vehicles. Maintaining a clean and safe work area is crucial, as is interacting with operations and shop management. This role requires physical stamina, including lifting objects up to 50 lbs frequently and occasionally over 75 lbs, standing for extended periods on various surfaces, and performing actions like reaching, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting, and kneeling. The position is a Motor Carrier Act Exempt role and requires obtaining the necessary training, skills, and certifications to qualify for promotion to Trailer Technician within one to two years, including becoming FMCSA-qualified for vehicle and brake inspections.

Requirements

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Basic mechanical skills
  • Basic computer skills for documenting maintenance, service, and repair activities
  • Able to perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation
  • Desire to become a trailer mechanic
  • Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience
  • Prior mechanical training or experience such as automotive or skilled trades
  • Own a set of basic hand tools
  • Have a desire to become a Technician Level 1

Responsibilities

  • Assist with trailer inspections and brake replacement to gain the experience necessary to meet requirements of FMCSA 396.19 and 396.25
  • Complete component replacements
  • Perform maintenance, service, and repairs on trailer doors and SafeStack Systems to units parked at the dock
  • Work alongside technicians in the shop to complete minor trailer repairs
  • Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activities
  • Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
  • Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and well-maintained by reporting any damage or negligence to management immediately
  • Interact with operations management and shop management
  • Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. and occasionally more than 75 lbs.
  • Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
  • Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
  • Obtain the training, skills, and certifications necessary to qualify for promotion to Trailer Technician within one (1) to two (2) years, including becoming FMCSA-qualified to perform vehicle and brake inspections
