About The Position

The City of Windsor is seeking a Traffic Technician to join their Operations department. This role reports to the Manager of Traffic Operations and is responsible for various traffic data collection, analysis, and related administrative tasks. The position is a regular full-time role within C.U.P.E. Local 543, offering a competitive hourly rate and a standard work week. Requirements

  • A three (3) year Transportation Engineering Technologist Diploma from a Community College or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency.
  • Over six (6) months of experience working in a computerized and traffic/transportation environment utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite of Products, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Eligibility for certification as an Engineering Technician from O.A.C.E.T.T.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver's License is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.
  • Familiarity with the Highway Capacity Manual.
  • Proficiency in mathematics and traffic survey techniques.
  • Proven oral and written skills as well as public relations skills.

Responsibilities

  • Independently undertake, input, tabulate, and review yearly average daily traffic counts.
  • Coordinate summer students and other staff in conducting turning movement counts, warrant studies, and surveys, which require travel to field locations.
  • Maintain accurate files, including computer files, of traffic volume and warrant studies.
  • Review and arrange detour routes in cooperation with other Departments, utilities, and contractors.
  • Prepare collision diagrams and accident statistics.
  • Provide training and assistance to those assisting in surveys and studies.
  • Review applications and prepare comments related to the Street and Alley Closing Committee.
  • Review and make recommendations regarding site line obstructions and other traffic-related matters.
  • Review and make recommendations for personal handicap parking spaces.
  • Attend various meetings as required, including pre-construction meetings and Street and Alley Closing Committee Meetings.
  • Handle general complaints from the public and City Council and prepare responses as required.
  • Maintain amiable relations with the public and fellow staff.
  • Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
