About The Position

This position is responsible for performing technical duties in the installation, repair, operation, and maintenance of traffic control systems. This position reports to the Traffic Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) to three (3) years’ experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Technician Level 1 Certification within one year of employment.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class B Commercial driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of electrical experience
  • Ability to serve in the on-call rotation.
  • Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices guidelines.
  • Knowledge of traffic signal installation, maintenance, operation, and repair principles.
  • Knowledge of traffic sign construction, installation, and repair procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and principles.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of job-related tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical system troubleshooting and repair principles.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to work independently, work well with others, and manage time effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Performs technical duties in the installation of traffic signal systems and school flasher systems and reviews design plans for traffic signal systems.
  • Conducts inspections and oversees contractors’ for the construction of traffic signal systems.
  • Performs maintenance of traffic signal systems and maintains traffic signal systems inventory.
  • Exercises direct supervision over assigned personnel.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
