Under minimal supervision, installs, maintains and inventories traffic signs and markings within the City of Lakewood. Keeps records on activities performed. Fabricates traffic signs. Responsible for tracking materials used; provides information to supervisor; assists in traffic marking operations.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.
One year experience with traffic line layout and sign installation as well as with equipment required to perform the essential job functions such as sign making equipment, small paint machines, over-the-road paint machine and pavement grinder.
Knowledge and experience with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Valid driver’s license and a good driving record; Colorado Class B commercial driver’s license within six months of hire.
Ability to effectively monitor inventory and track in an appropriate manner.
Ability to become skilled at supervisory tasks to oversee seasonal and temporary staff.
Ability to use personal computer and keyboard.
Ability to work safely and set up safe work zones.
Ability to work effectively as a team member.
Ability to communicate effectively with other employees as well as supervisors.
Ability to work productively without constant supervision.
Bend or position self to move items from higher place to lower place or vice-versa
Lift, carry, push, pull, move, or position from all levels up to 50 lbs.
Lift, carry, push, pull, move, or position from all levels over 51 lbs. with assistance
Sit, stand or be stationary
Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, turn or twist all of which may include awkward positions on both even and uneven terrain
Talk, hear, converse, communicate, or exchange information
Use of hands and/or fingers in a repetitive motion to handle, pinch, reach, grasp, move, feel, and inspect, etc.
Vision to include distance, depth perception, peripheral and color
Walk, ascend or descend on both even and uneven terrain
Lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; some objects have to be lifted chest high.
May work at heights up to 30 feet.

Responsibilities

Uses personal computer to manufacture traffic control signs.
Sets up safe work sites including proper use of cones, signs and traffic control.
Drives City vehicle and tows trailer.
Places guide markers for painting street lane lines.
Installs traffic control signs and pavement markings such as crosswalks and turn arrows.
Manages hazardous materials generated by painting operations.
Maintains inventory of field assets such as signs and markings and serves as resource on signs and marking material.
Performs keyboarding operations and uses personal computer to maintain databases.
Completes work logs of materials used, tasks completed, and crews performing tasks.
Performs pre and post trip inspections on equipment.
Operates and maintains equipment used for sign manufacturing and pavement marking such as small painting machines, personal computers, keyboards, and hand tools.
Assists in traffic marking operations on a routine basis.
Removes non-conforming traffic lines with a grinder.
Lays out and paints parking lots.
Assists in operation of highway paint machine.
Participates in weekly scheduled clean-up activities.
Works independently and as part of a team, following supervisor’s direction.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner.
Requires regular and prompt attendance.
Must maintain and utilize City-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when conducting activities where the employee is exposed to risks above those encountered in a traditional office setting. If injured on-the-job due to failure to utilize PPE a safety violation can be taken.
Assists signal crews as requested by supervisor.
Performs pre and post trip checks on equipment.
Trains seasonal and variable employees.
