Under general supervision, performs technical work of moderate difficulty in the maintenance and repair of traffic signal systems and highway lighting units. This position has department-specific responsibility. Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing on a random basis or for reasonable suspicion. Responsibilities include responding to malfunctioning traffic signals, troubleshooting and repairing them by replacing electronic components, repairing faulty wiring, and ensuring optimal efficiency and safety. The role involves patrolling designated areas to check signal operations and timing, performing scheduled maintenance, working with the traffic control team on signal erection and repair, electronically locating underground wiring for contractors, monitoring signal system operations, setting traffic counters, assisting with sign fabrication and installation, completing maintenance reports, and performing emergency repairs on a 24-hour call-out rotation.
