Responsible for a variety of specialized tasks, including for but not limited to, skilled and technical work in the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of the computerized traffic signal system. This role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining central traffic masters and intersection controllers, as well as monitoring computer reports to identify system issues. The technician will install and set up various traffic signal components, work independently with skilled judgment, and troubleshoot failures due to accidents, vandalism, weather, or construction. Programming computerized traffic signal controllers with knowledge of phasing/timing schemes is also a key responsibility. The role includes maintaining and repairing computerized closed loop signal systems and school zone warning systems, ordering parts, maintaining equipment records, and recommending equipment replacement. Interpreting electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints is essential, as is assisting in preparing drawings and recommending signal timing. The technician will also test control equipment, collect traffic data, perform preventative maintenance, and respond to emergencies at all hours. Continuous improvement of operations and cooperative teamwork are expected.
