Learn about our benefits here. Traffic Signal Technician I (The job description for the Traffic Signal Technician II is below.) Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry-level classification in the Traffic Signal Technician series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision with work frequently reviewed by a superior. This classification is distinguished from the Traffic Signal Technician II in that the latter performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill. Traffic Signal Technician II Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the journey-level classification in the Traffic Signal Technician series that follows diversified procedures and implements processes to accomplish end results, within guidelines. Immediate supervision is available upon request.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
One (1) or Three (3) years of experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical and electronic signal and traffic control equipment.
Class C Drivers license.
Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; Safety practices and procedures; proper and efficient use of hand and power tools; methods of tool and equipment maintenance; traffic control and barricade placement.
Electrical codes applicable to the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical circuits and wiring systems; methods and techniques used in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical and electronic signal and traffic control equipment.
Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; operating a computer terminal and peripheral equipment; conducts tests through electronic functional and other testing processes; installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring systems, equipment devices and controls; operating bucket trucks.
Texas Class C driver's license (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law).

Nice To Haves

IMSA Traffic Signal Technician II preffered
Certification Level I preferred with the International Municipal Signal Association.
Certification Level II with the International Municipal Signal Association preferred.
completion of a technical or trade school program in Electronics preferred.

Responsibilities

Inspects traffic signal equipment to ensure that signalized intersections are operating as programmed.
Installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains the traffic signal equipment.
May coordinate and direct traffic signal personnel in the technical applications of signal construction, repair and maintenance.
Assists in the construction of traffic signal equipment.
Maintains daily work records.
May be required to operate equipment, such as aerial man lift or backhoe/trencher, as required.
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Tests and repairs signal equipment to the component level, including electromechanical, analog and microprocessor-controlled equipment.
Coordinates and directs traffic signal personnel in the technical applications of signal construction, repair and maintenance.
Assists Traffic Operations Engineer in the operational capabilities of microcomputer controllers.
Leads the work activities of Traffic Signal Technician I.
