Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by technical training.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in general servicing and/or maintenance work involving mechanical or electrical equipment, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Associate Traffic Signal Technician Level I certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Valid driver's license issued by the state.
  • Understanding of fundamental electrical principles.
  • Familiarity with practices, procedures, equipment, and techniques for maintaining municipal traffic signals, signs, pavement markings, and more.
  • Proficiency in computer use.
  • Ability to follow operational guidelines and perform basic mathematical calculations, including algebraic and geometric principles.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, remove, and repair signal control and auxiliary equipment, including traffic signal controllers and cabinets.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform necessary adjustments, repairs, replacements, or modifications on electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.
  • Investigate complaints and reports of traffic signal malfunctions.
  • Conduct field repairs of damaged equipment and identify and repair wire circuits.
  • Assist in designing electrical circuits and systems for traffic signals.
  • Monitor and program traffic signal controllers, making necessary adjustments.
  • Re-lamp signalized intersections and paint traffic components and signal standards.
  • Inspect, remove, and install batteries and battery backup equipment.
  • Adjust and implement traffic signal timing parameters.
  • Maintain accurate work records and manage order supplies, parts, and materials.
  • Set up traffic control measures.
  • Work on-call schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
