Traffic Signal Inspector
About The Position
Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC (ICE) is hiring a Traffic Signal Inspector in West Columbia. ICE is a full-service transportation design and consulting firm specializing in civil and transportation engineering services, delivering infrastructure solutions across the U.S. The inspector will oversee signal installation and related concrete work, document construction activities and installed materials, verify compliance with project requirements and current SCDOT standards, and conduct material sampling and testing. The position requires communication with colleagues and client representatives and flexibility to work according to project schedules, including night and weekend work. The work takes place on construction sites and may involve active traffic and varied environmental conditions.
Requirements
- Math calculation skills.
- Experience with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds sometimes on a frequent basis.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Fleet drivers must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
- Must complete pre-employment screening; ICE is a drug-free workplace.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and recognize sound, tone, and pitch.
- Ability to adapt to interruptions and workflow changes and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, and noisy conditions and to stand and walk during site visits.
- Ability to navigate construction sites and conduct thorough inspections of materials and structures.

- ACI Concrete certificate.
- SCDOT Concrete Level 1 and Level 2 certificates.
- Experience in traffic signal inspection or construction, signalized intersections, ITS inspection, fiber optic communications, traffic signal technology, electrical inspection, transportation or highway construction inspection, traffic operations or signal timing, signal installation, roadway lighting, CCTV systems, dynamic message signs, electrical systems, utility coordination, maintenance of traffic or traffic control, SCDOT construction projects, or transportation infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Continuously inspect and monitor signal installation and miscellaneous concrete work for compliance with safety requirements, plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Observe construction activities daily and document them on required reports and forms.
- Determine and document quantities of materials installed during the project.
- Ensure materials, procedures, and safety protocols comply with current South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) standards.
- Conduct material sampling and testing to verify compliance with project specifications.
- Communicate and interact effectively with colleagues and client representatives.
- Adapt work schedule to project and contractor needs, including night shifts and potentially weekend work.
- Use diplomacy and maintain composure in challenging and stressful situations.
