About The Position

The City of Medford is seeking a Traffic Signal Electrical Inspector to join its Engineering & Development team. This role involves inspecting traffic signal and streetlight installations in the field, reviewing plans and construction for compliance with City standards, and collaborating with engineers, contractors, and other professionals on public infrastructure projects. The position offers the opportunity to apply electrical knowledge in a technical inspection capacity, ensuring correct installation of new City-owned electrical infrastructure and adherence to approved plans and standards for project progression. This role has a direct connection to Medford's transportation infrastructure.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Four (4) years of experience as a licensed General Journeyman electrician
  • Either: Two (2) years of experience installing or inspecting traffic signals or similar public electrical infrastructure, or International Traffic Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Level I certification.
  • Valid, current Oregon Driver’s License and safe driving record.
  • General Journeyman Electrician (J) license.

Nice To Haves

  • State of Oregon Electrical Specialty Code Inspector certificate (EI).
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector certification.
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Level II certification.
  • Knowledge of 170/2070/ATC controllers.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and conducts inspections of foundations, conduit, cabinets and other equipment for traffic signal and street light installations.
  • Prepares record drawings for street light installations using drafting software (such as Auto CAD).
  • Reviews plans and ensures construction meets specifications; reviews equipment and facilities as required; gives final approval to electrical aspects of projects.
  • Serves as the contact for inquiries related to electrical inspection and prepares and maintains records and reports.
  • Prepares daily inspection reports and maintains records of work performed.
  • Provides technical advice and information to architects, engineers, contractors, craftsmen, property owners, maintenance personnel, engineering staff, and citizens regarding codes, regulations, and requirements for streetlights, traffic signals, and any related or similar electrical infrastructure.
  • May assist Department management providing court testimony related to electrical code violations.
  • Completes designated job tasks, special projects, and all other duties as assigned to meet team, department, and City goals while working cooperatively, efficiently, and productively in a team environment.
