About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Traffic Engineer II with experience in signing, pavement marking, traffic signals, and ITS design to support transportation projects in Florida. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to grow technical expertise and gain experience working under FDOT standards and requirements. The selected candidate will work under the guidance of senior engineers to contribute to the development of high-quality, compliant, and constructible traffic design plans, while building proficiency in FDOT design practices. This position offers a flexible hybrid work model and can be based in any of our Florida offices, including Tampa, Orlando, Coral Gables, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, or Tallahassee.

Requirements

  • BS Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering or related field or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain.
  • Experience working with state agencies such as Caltrans, LADOT, FDOT or similar state DOTs
  • Experience or exposure to: Traffic signals, Signing and pavement marking, ITS or fiber optic systems
  • Familiarity with transportation project delivery (PS&E).
  • Proficiency with engineering tools such as: MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Synchro or similar traffic tools (preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and production of: Signing & Pavement Marking Plans, Traffic Signal Plans, ITS and interconnect systems
  • Assist in preparing PS&E packages, including quantities, cost estimates, and specifications
  • Perform basic to intermediate engineering calculations, including: Signal timing and detection layouts, Traffic index and design criteria
  • Develop layouts for: Pavement markings, striping, and signing, Traffic signal systems (mast arms, detection, interconnect concepts)
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (roadway, drainage, utilities, ITS, lighting, and structures) to support integrated project delivery.
  • Apply applicable standards and guidelines, including: FDOT Design Standards (training provided), FDOT Plans Preparation Manual (PPM), MUTCD
  • Support design-build pursuits through preparation of preliminary layouts and technical concepts.
  • Assist with QA/QC reviews of plans, quantities, and estimates.
  • Participate in field reviews and constructability assessments.
  • Coordinate with agencies and clients under supervision.
