About The Position

Arizona Athletic Grounds (“AAG”) is one of the largest youth-oriented sports facilities in the United States, serving millions of visitors per year and providing athletic programming and a variety of special events. AAG’s operational footprint includes a 2,500+ seat outdoor stadium, 24 multi-purpose fields, 62 indoor/beach volleyball courts, 41 pickleball courts, eight baseball/softball diamonds, 16 basketball courts, and more! As AAG continues to grow its event portfolio and attendance, maintaining safe, efficient, and guest-friendly traffic operations is a critical priority. This newly created role will serve as the operational backbone of AAG’s in-house Traffic Operations function, working closely with the Security department to deliver a seamless guest arrival and departure experience. Position Summary The Traffic & Security Operations Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day management of all traffic operations at AAG. Reporting directly to the Sr. Director of Security Operations, this individual will oversee traffic control staffing, scheduling, and staff deployment across all surface lots, entry and exit points, crosswalks, and high-guest-traffic areas during events and peak operational periods. The ideal candidate is a proactive, experienced operations professional with a strong background in traffic management, security, or large-venue operations. This role requires a leader who is equally comfortable in the office managing schedules and across the Grounds directing staff and rolling up their sleeves to assist with traffic control when volume demands it.

Requirements

  • A genuine commitment to guest and employee safety and a desire to be an integral part of a high-performing team built on a mission of “safety always.”
  • Minimum 2–3 years of progressive experience in traffic management, security operations, venue operations, or a related field - large venue or event experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to direct, motivate, and manage a diverse team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic control principles, crowd management techniques, and parking operations.
  • Ability to make sound, rapid decisions under pressure and handle high-stress situations with a calm and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with staff, guests, vendors, and law enforcement.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license required.
  • Must have a Guard Card or be willing to obtain one within 4 months of hire date.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and experience with scheduling tools or workforce management platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary operational lead for all traffic and parking operations across AAG’s surface lots, entry/exit points, crosswalks, and pedestrian zones.
  • Directly supervise, coach, and develop a team of 8–12 part-time Traffic Attendants, fostering a culture of accountability, professionalism, and guest-first service.
  • Actively participate in traffic control and parking management during peak events, busy periods, or when staffing gaps require hands-on coverage — this is a working leadership role.
  • Assess real-time traffic flow conditions and rapidly redeploy staff across lots and entry points to optimize guest movement and minimize congestion.
  • Coordinate traffic operations across all major entry points including all surface lots, back entry and gates.
  • Build, manage, and distribute event-day and daily staffing schedules for all Traffic Attendants, ensuring appropriate coverage levels for all event types and peak periods.
  • Manage shift assignments, time-off requests, and call-out coverage, maintaining operational readiness at all times.
  • Maintain accurate payroll recordkeeping and timekeeping for all traffic staff.
  • Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding of part-time Traffic Attendants; serve as a candidate pipeline feeder for future Security Officer roles.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback to traffic staff.
  • Report to and operate within the AAG Security Department under the Sr. Director of Security Operations.
  • Coordinate event security measures in support of the broader Security team, including access control, crowd flow management, and emergency response preparedness.
  • Assist Security supervisors and officers during downtime or as backup when traffic operations allow, creating a cross-functional support model.
  • Respond calmly and professionally to security incidents, guest conflicts, and emergency situations; liaise with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
  • Conduct regular operational audits of traffic posts, surface lots, and crosswalk positions to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Security and Events teams to develop event-specific traffic and parking plans, including ingress/egress strategies, overflow management, and post assignments.
  • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for traffic control, parking lot management, and guest direction.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to traffic safety, crowd management, and facility operations.
  • Assist in additional duties, special projects, and events as needed.
