About The Position

This role offers a dynamic opportunity to contribute to transportation safety and operational excellence. The Traffic & Safety Engineer will perform traffic studies, analyze safety and mobility data, and provide engineering solutions to improve transportation systems. You will work across multiple facets of traffic engineering, including signalization, highway lighting, signage, and pavement markings, while supporting project planning and design. The position requires strong analytical skills, technical expertise, and the ability to communicate findings effectively to both technical teams and public stakeholders. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, participate in public meetings, and contribute to projects that enhance mobility and safety for all road users. This role offers a mix of independent work, project leadership, and hybrid flexibility, providing both professional growth and impactful contributions to transportation infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Florida or ability to obtain within six months.
  • 6+ years of experience in transportation or traffic engineering.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with MicroStation.
  • Strong knowledge of Highway Capacity and Highway Safety concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in improving transportation safety and mobility across all modes of transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience producing design plans for signage, pavement markings, signalization, lighting, or ITS
  • PTOE or RSP certification
  • familiarity with Central Florida Regional Planning Model (CFRPM)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field reviews, collect and analyze traffic data, and perform research to support transportation projects.
  • Evaluate crash data and identify engineering countermeasures to improve safety and mobility for all modes of transportation.
  • Perform traffic operations and capacity analyses using specialized software such as HCS, Synchro, Sidra, and Corsim.
  • Prepare traffic studies, including signal warrant studies, intersection analyses, corridor studies, traffic impact assessments, and PD&E support.
  • Develop cost estimates and financial justifications for projects, including benefit/cost and NPV analyses.
  • Attend public meetings and community workshops to communicate project findings and recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports documenting methodologies, analyses, and design approaches.
  • Support traffic operations design for components such as signalization, highway lighting, signage, and pavement markings as needed.
