About The Position

We are currently seeking a Traffic Project Engineer II to join our West Palm Beach, FL office. In this role, you will support a variety of transportation engineering and Traffic Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) initiatives for FDOT and local agency clients throughout Florida. You will work alongside a team of transportation professionals focused on improving mobility, safety, and operational performance through innovative traffic engineering solutions and data-driven decision-making. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile transportation projects, including arterial traffic signal retiming programs, TSM&O studies, performance measurement initiatives, smart work zones, and operational analyses that directly impact the traveling public. You will collaborate with transportation engineers, planners, and public agencies while developing expertise in traffic operations, signal timing, transportation analytics, and emerging mobility technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • 2 -4 year Traffic Engineering experience, preferably on traffic engineering projects for Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
  • EIT certification required.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, Highway Safety Manual and ADA regulations.
  • Working knowledge of traffic modeling including Synchro/SimTraffic is required.
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • An attitude and commitment to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to analyze complex traffic issues and alternates and prepare cogent recommendations.
  • Ability to read plan sets with a focus on temporary traffic control plan (TTCP) and signing and pavement marking.
  • Familiarity with transportation data analytics, performance measurement programs, and traffic operations studies.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • CORSIM, and HCS is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize, and analyze traffic volumes, travel times, signal controller data, crash data, and other operational performance measures.
  • Support traffic signal timing, corridor operations, arterial management, and congestion management analyses.
  • Support TSM&O and ITS projects, including performance monitoring, dashboards, operational strategies, and system evaluations.
  • Assist with Smart Work Zone planning, deployment, data analysis, and performance evaluation.
  • Perform traffic engineering analyses related to safety, mobility, speed management, and multimodal operations.
  • Use traffic analysis and simulation tools to evaluate existing conditions and proposed improvements.
  • Support the design and evaluation of traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and temporary traffic control.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, exhibits, presentations, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, FDOT, local agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.
