About The Position

The WBBM-AM Traffic Center is looking for a dynamic and talented professional to work in a fast-paced environment as a traffic producer/reporter. Producer duties include gathering, writing, and selecting traffic information to run in on-air radio traffic reports, online, and on social media platforms. The role requires the ability to manage multiple scanner frequencies, digital platforms, and maps for the production, writing, and presentation of traffic reports and digital content. Reporter duties may include sports reporting.

Requirements

  • A valid driver's license.
  • Satisfactory completion of a motor vehicle record check.
  • If the position requires use of applicant's own vehicle, proof of insurance is required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Chicago area and traffic geography.
  • Minimum of 2 years traffic, news, and/or sports reporting for broadcast media.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to gather traffic information is a must.
  • Knowledge of the broadcast area geography and transportation systems is essential.
  • Applicant must be willing to join SAG AFTRA union.

Responsibilities

  • Gathering, writing, recording, editing, and delivering traffic reports as outlined by Audacy Inc.
  • Monitoring of traffic gathering assets (e.g., traffic camera imagery, scanner listening, etc.).
  • Posting, editing, and managing traffic information to Audacy social media accounts (e.g., Twitter, etc.).
  • Voicing traffic reports on Audacy stations to air on broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Providing live reads of traffic sponsors within designated reports by the company, including logging commercials and discrepancies.
  • Other duties as required by management.
  • Work from the studio to mitigate risks associated with internet or power outages that could disrupt reporting.
  • Utilize the studio’s backup power and resources to ensure continuous operation.
  • Handle listener tip calls regarding traffic information, received by phone in the studio.
  • Collaborate directly with editors and news anchors to facilitate quick communication and coordination, especially in urgent traffic news situations.
  • Contribute to improved PPM (Portable People Meter) results by delivering uncompressed audio reports from the studio, which positively impacts overall station ratings.
