About The Position

Engineering Specialist 4 – Traffic Monitoring Coordinator Oregon Department of Transportation Policy, Data and Analysis Division Transportation Data Section / Transportation Systems Monitoring Unit Salem The role: Are you passionate about data and interested in using it to influence engineering designs for road features and highway construction projects? We are looking for a traffic monitoring coordinator to lead and coordinate the activities of our statewide Traffic Monitoring Program. In this role, you will be essential in maintaining and preparing the annual Transportation Volume Tables publication. You will also ensure compliance with the Federal Highway Administration's Highway Performance Monitoring System mandates while supporting the ODOT's roadway design, construction operations and planning activities. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and two years of engineering technician experience in traffic, roadway or geographic information systems; OR An associate degree in the field of engineering (civil or transportation-related) and three years of engineering technician experience in traffic, roadway or geographic information systems; OR Five years of experience in the field of engineering in traffic, roadway or geographic information systems; OR An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Note: Related experience, education, and training can include, but is not limited to construction management, geography, mathematics, physics and/or urban planning.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principals, with the ability to understand transportation-related datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large datasets using tools such as Excel to identify trends and provide reports that support decision making.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and communicating (verbally and written) to coordinate and implement program activities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and providing technical data for complex engineering designs and studies.
  • Demonstrated skill balancing competing priorities and organizing workload.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and carry out the Traffic Monitoring Program activities for ODOT's manual classification count, continuous counting and coverage count programs.
  • Review Vendor Purchase Agreements (PAs), create work order contracts for traffic counts and manage traffic counting program contracts and special projects.
  • Provide traffic data for the Highway Performance Monitoring System program.
  • Coordinate Traffic Monitoring program activities with region staff.
  • Manage the preparation of the annual Transportation Volume Tables, Traffic Flow Map, GIS data, State Highway Vehicle Miles Traveled Report and the monthly Selected Transportation Trends Report.
  • Provide traffic data to support other programs.
  • Check, interpret and approve the validity of field traffic data.
  • Provides written and oral communication and represents the Traffic Monitoring Program in meetings and technical advisory committees.
