About The Position

Direct traffic in a safe manner so that parent drop-off lanes and bus loop remain clear at all times. Control traffic so that school buses can enter and exit school grounds safely. This role involves controlling traffic to allow flow of school transportation vehicles, parent and student drivers to and from school. The Traffic Guard maintains awareness of present or potential traffic hazards in the area surrounding assigned crossings and promptly informs the building administrator of any hazards and possible corrective measures. The position performs routing work of a repetitive nature requiring some judgment and discretion in dealing with children while acting in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines. The employee is expected to exercise considerable caution and safety while supervising the safety of children and works independently under the general supervision of the building administrator. Violations of Va. Code are reported to the Sheriff’s department.

Requirements

  • Completed traffic safety course conducted by Hanover County's Sheriff's Department
  • Ability to exercise extreme caution while supervising the safety of students and drivers
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in dealing with the public while following established traffic safety policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to remain calm, concentrate and perform all responsibilities in a competent manner at all times
  • Skill in having patience and sensitivity to students and public drivers
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of driving experience
  • A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
