About The Position

Hinterland Group is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Traffic Flagger to support construction and roadway operations in Merritt Island, FL. The Traffic Flagger is responsible for directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic around active work zones to protect the safety of crew members, motorists, and pedestrians at all times.

Requirements

  • Current Flagger Certification (MOT/ATSSA or FDOT-approved) required, or willingness to obtain certification prior to start.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended shifts in all weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and situational awareness in a live traffic environment.
  • Reliable and punctual, with the ability to work early morning, evening, or weekend shifts as project schedules require.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to follow direction from site supervisors.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and/or drug screening as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior flagging or traffic control experience preferred; entry-level candidates willing to train may be considered.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Control the flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic around construction sites to ensure safe, orderly movement through and around work zones.
  • Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, signs, and message boards in accordance with the site traffic control plan.
  • Communicate clearly with drivers, pedestrians, and crew members using hand signals, paddles, flags, and/or two-way radios.
  • Monitor work zone conditions continuously and immediately report hazards, equipment issues, or unsafe conditions to the site supervisor.
  • Maintain a visible, attentive presence at assigned posts for extended periods, including standing outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Follow MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) and FDOT traffic control standards, along with all site-specific safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with crew members and supervisors to adjust traffic patterns as work progresses throughout the shift.
  • Complete required safety documentation and daily reports as needed.
